Explosive atmosphere / Static electricity
Some jobs are done in an explosive atmosphere. In such circumstances, a spark can cause an explosion or a fire.
Wearing appropriate clothing is a precaution against the emission of sparks, notably by virtue of the anti-static properties of the fabric used, which is certified compliant with EN1149.
Directive 89/686/CEE art. 2.6. PPE intended for use in explosive atmospheres:
"PPE designed for use in explosive atmospheres must be designed and manufactured so that it cannot be the origin of an arc or spark which is caused by electricity or electrical static, or which results from an impact, that might ignite an explosive mixture."
Directive ATEX 1999/92/CE
This directive covers minimal requirements aimed at improving the protection of the health and safety of workers who can be exposed to an explosive atmosphere hazard.
